Alvis 1953 TA 21 Drophead Coupe by Tickford LHD
Coachbuilt Tickford body # 20225. Tickford built 302 dropheads and this is one of 80 produced in LHD. The total TA21 production is 1316.
This lovely LHD drophead coupe was purportedly sold new to a Hollywood celebrity as a gift for his mistress. When the mistress tired of the car, he sold it in 1958 to Mr. McCartney. Mr. McCartney kept the car for 55 years until his death in 2013. We have invoices showing the continuous ownership by Mr. McCartney from 1958 to 2013.
This car is in excellent mechanical condition. It drives very well, with no rattles or squeaks. The engine is quiet and pulls strongly. Transmission shifts smoothly, and the brakes are excellent and quiet. The engine and transmission was rebuilt in 2001 and the car has only travelled about 1000 miles since the rebuild. This Alvis is in exceptional condition.The paint and chrome are perfect, the leather interior is extremely good with only minor wear showing on the driver's seat back. The finish on the interior woodwork is also in remarkably good condition. The doors both close easily and have no sag in them whatsoever. The second owner took extraordinary care of this car over his 55 year ownership and the condition and invoices are testament to this.
