Built by Van Den Plas, this Phantom I features the most opulent coachwork on a touring car. The book-matched walnut panels on the inside of each door are fitted with shelves of perfume flasks, cologne bottles, leather glove boxes, accessory cases and a luxurious set of sterling silver toilet articles including brushes, mirror, scissors, comb and pomade jars. Hidden behind two curved doors on the division is a complete cocktail service with crystal decanters and glasses. Umbrellas, maps, walking sticks or a fowling piece could be stored in the compartment in the secondary cowl behind the chauffeur's seat. Two occasional seats are artfully hidden in the woodwork of the division and invisible when not in use. Spacious leather wardrobe cases contoured to the curve of the doors are fitted to the running boards and hold compartments for hanging garments as well as drawers for small items. A third trunk is mounted above the rear bumper for additional storage.
Two are seated comfortably on the deep rear seat behind a second windscreen with its own wings. A protective apron could be used to protect traveler's legs in inclement weather.
The finest touring accessories were fitted by Van Den Plas include French Lucifer parking lights on the front fenders and Grebel headlamps and spotlight . A graceful diving nude is carved in mother of pearl on a sterling silver running light. The four paneled windscreen has blue tinted visors.
No expense was spared in fitting this one-off body. It originally was sold to a family in Portugal where it stayed for many years. This extremely luxurious car runs excellently.
