Delivered new to Mr. Duncan McMartin of Berkley Square London in September 1936. Mr. McMartin was an excellent customer of Rolls-Royce and Bentley and was known to order very elaborate, custom coachwork. In January 1937, he shipped the Bentley to New York where it remained until his death. Mr. John Neff of Los Angeles purchased the car in May 1945 from Mrs. McMartin and kept it in Newport Beach, CA until March 1953 when the car was sold to William R.l Tritt of Santa Barbara. Tritt sold the car to Jim Brucker of Cars of the Stars and Planes of Fame in Buena Park around 1963. The car remained in the museum for over ten years until its sale to Brent Bailey around 1977. Nola Rocco of Los Angeles purchased the car in 1986 from Mr. Bailey.
The car was used in many movies filmed in Hollywood in the late 30's and early 40's, one of which was the Hitchcock thriller ""Foreign Correspondent"" with George Sanders, Laraine Day and Joel McCrea.
A superb driver, the car has undergone a complete engine overhaul by Acme Garage of Oakland. The interior and paint were done about four years ago by the previous owner. The car comes with a handbook, full history and most of its tools.
The low rakish V-Windscreen, v-shaped instrument facier and the elongated hood covering the cowl make the car look longer and extremely sporty. With these features it has to be one of the most striking Darby dropheads ever built.
