Rolls-Royce 1923 Silver Ghost Riveria Towncar by Brewster
This Rolls-Royce was built in 1923 as a Pall Mall with body number M-506 and sold to W. H. Harley on September 11, 1923. In 1929, it was rebodied as a "Special Riviera Town Brougham" and delivered to A.L. Humes of New York City, New York on December 7, 1929. This Silver Ghost Riviera Towncar is one of the most opulent Rolls-Royces. The Riviera design was considered the epitome of Brewster coachwork.
Fine carriage lamps are mounted behind the mahogany trimmed chauffeur's compartment that is upholstered in black leather. The passenger compartment is upholstered in black cloth and embellished with an elaborate petit-point design that is repeated on the two small pillows. The hardware is gold-plated Gorham and the wood garnish moldings are inlaid in a floral marquestry pattern of rare woods handcrafted in Venice, Italy by order of the original owner.
The Riviera was restored in the early 1970's; to duplicate this today, the cost would well exceed $400,000. Finished in black lacquer with chrome wire wheels, the car was a 100 point restoration and a mulitiple national prize winner.
Awards won include first places in October 1971, June 1972, and October 1972 at the Hershey, Pennsylvania show of the Antique Automobile Club of America. First place and the Dr. Scher Trophy at the Rolls-Royce Owners Meet at Newport, Rhode Island in September 1973.
