1931 Rolls Royce Phantom I Ascot Seven Passenger Dual Windscreen Tourer
The Rolls-Royce Phantom I was introduced in 1925 as the direct replacement of the famed Silver Ghost. While the Phantom retained the Silver Ghost's chassis and suspension, it featured several mechanical developments including Hispano-Suiza conceived servo-assisted brakes. Rolls followed up the Phantom's arrival in the American market with the purchase of the Brewster & Company coach-building firm in New York City, securing a prime source of quality coach-building for its American clientele.
One of the finest examples of Brewster's work is offered here in this magnificent a one off 1931 Phantom I Ascot Seven Passenger Dual Windscreen Tourer which is Featured in "Rolls-Royce in America" by John deCampi.
Rolls continued to develop the Phantom, which by 1931 was equipped with an aluminum cylinder head, extensive exterior chrome, servo-assisted brakes, thermostat-activated radiator shutters and conical headlights. But it was the artful side of the RR formula that shone through in the Brewster coachwork and detailing, in this case a one-off design, dual-cowl, dual-windshield sport Phaeton.
Beautifully finished in Sea Blue with Red leather upholstery, Beige cloth top and light Blue wire wheels, Brewster chassis number S199PR was sold new to Mr. J.B. Arthur of New York City in April 1933. With only three owners, it spent a significant 38 years in the Schaevitz Collection. It presents today in splendid condition reflecting decades of caring ownership, and is believed by experts to possess one of the best original chassis in existence.
