1936 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Barker Two Seat Sport Coupe
This one-off design by Barker sports a dickey seat and a rear mounted spare. This is one of only four Barker fixed head coupes built, and the only one with a Dickey seat and rear mounted spare. Black and burgundy with burgundy leather. Sold new in March 1937 to Mrs. Dennistoun M. Bell of Amangansett, New York, this car has spent much of its life on the East Coast of the United States. It was in England for a brief time, where it was cosmetically restored. John Dennison of Dennison Motors Inc. in West Chester, Pennsylvania completed the mechanical restoration. Mr. Dennison is acknowledged as one of the world's leading experts in Phantom III's.
The mechanical restoration included fitting new pistons, wrist pins, rings and cylinder liners to the engine. The original silent hydraulic tappets are still in the engine. The camshaft has been re-profiled and converted to roller cam followers. The slipper flywheel, distributor, carburetor, water pump, oil pump, etc. have been rebuilt. The clutch has been relined and the flexible coupling and spring discs replaced. All engine amd gearbox mounts have been replaced. The radiator has been redone and the entire car rewired. The front end has been rebuilt and the brakes and servo relined. The Bijur lubricating system has been overhauled and is working. The engine and transmission are smooth and this car has none of the problems normally associated with Phantom III's. Over $150,000 was spent on the restoration.
Thsi car is featured in the book Rolls-Royce: The Derby Phantoms on page 375 when it was new. This exceptionally stunning Phantim III could be entered in Pebble Beach.
