Alvis 1960 TD 21 Drophead Coupe by Park Ward LHD

The Alvis Car and Engineering Company was formed after the conclusion of World War I and quickly gained a reputation for building attractive luxury cars fitted with many technological advancements.
Styled by Swiss Carrosserie Graber and boasting coachwork manufactured by Rolls-Royce's in house coachbuilder 'Park Ward', the Alvis TD 21 made its debut in 1958.  The design is simple, smooth, and elegant, with many features indicative of Park Ward's style. The grill, with its vertical louvers, is similar to those found on Park Ward bodied Rolls-Royce or Bentleys of the same era.  The headlamps extend slightly farther than the rest of the body and curve gracefully into the hood, another signature of Park Ward's work.  The rear quarter-panels, as they curve slightly away from the body, are also an iconic feature of the coachbuilder.  In many respects this is similar to a Park Ward bodied Bentley S1 Continental, though sitting on a smaller wheelbase and different front fender designs.
The TD 21 initially retained the torquey 3-litre, overhead-valve six that came with 104 bhp , though this was increased early in 1959 to 120 bhp, courtesy of a new cylinder head and it was then capable of 100mph.  Inside there were improvements to the accommodation with increased headroom and legroom when compared to the preceding TC108G, especially in the rear.  Lockheed servo-assisted disc brakes were now an option, becoming standard in 1960.  The TD 21 is a real “driver's car.”  The English magazine Autocar  praised the TD 21 as “one of the most enchanting owner-driver cars imaginable.”  Of the 784 TD21's built only 192 were drophead coupes and even a smaller number were LHD.
This TD 21 was sold new by the dealer, Pimleys in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada to Mr. Donald Smith a noted stamp collector and appraiser in Victoria in August 1960.  He kept the car until 1994 when it was purchased by Peter Dobbs, an Alvis connoisseur and restoration specialist on Vancouver Island.  Mr. Dobbs repainted the car Midnight Metallic Blue, reupholstered it in blue gray leather, had a new top fitted, and rechromed the brightwork as necessary.  He also expertly rebuilt the engine and replaced the Borg Warner automatic transmission with a more desirable factory 4-speed manual transmission from another TD21.  The third owner, also of British Columbia, completed two 1000 mile classic car tours in the past two years.  Comes with an extensive service and history file.
This elegant car has 65,000 original miles and is ready for touring!
